“Which card, Lord, would be the best for my grieving friend?” she asked in the card aisle at Target. 

“Lord, I trust you. I trust you. I trust you,” her soul cried as she went about her daily duties and thought of her daughter in a difficult and dangerous circumstance.

For many, the last few days before Christmas are rarely peaceful. This is especially true for parents and pastors. This can leave us wondering if we are nothing more than Christmas “Marthas,” “distracted with much serving . . . anxious and troubled about many things” and missing the “Mary” moment in all the merry (Luke 10:40–42).

Fathers, I have a confession: I get “the feels” around all things Christmas. Listening to nonstop holiday music (after Thanksgiving, of course), the sight of a tree on a car, exterior illumination that would make Clark Griswold proud, the smell of evergreen — I love it all. I don’t need Andy Williams to tell me, “it’s the most wonderful time of the year,” but I sure can’t wait until he does!
